Preparing for your appointment

Whether this is your first tattoo or you are an experienced collector, getting a tattoo is an procedure you should prepare for intentionally. To ensure the best possible experience for both you and your artists, please review our recommended preparation!

The month of

  • Maintain a consistent sleep routine, don't overwork yourself, avoid stress-inducing activities. 

  • Exfoliate your skin two times a week, keep your skin moisturized and hydrate by drinking water.

  • Avoid damaging the area, wear sunscreen, be careful of scratches and scrapes, don't pop pimples or pick at the tattoo area. 

  • Communicate any design changes with your artist.

The week of

  • Avoid excessive alcohol or drug consumption, maintain your day to day routines to avoid stress.

  • Stop exfoliating your still 2-3 days beforehand, continue to moisturize daily.

  • Stay hydrated and fed, fuel your body with full and healthy meals to maintain energy.

  • Prepare your tattoo "go bag" - charge your earbuds, find your book or your switch, buy snacks, get together anything you may need to be comfortable and entertained for your session. 

  • Double check studio location and your commute time. 

The day of

  • Come showered and in comfortable clothing. Work with where your tattoo is going and dress accordingly, consider wearing black or neutral tones for photographing purposes.

  • Shave beforehand only if your skin is accustomed to shaving and you KNOW you will not get cuts, razor burn, or ingrown hairs. 

  • Eat a FULL meal within two hours before your appointment to avoid low blood sugar and fatigue. Bring snacks or a sugary drink if your are prone to low blood sugar or fainting, or if you are getting a larger piece done.

  • Plan to arrive to your appointment 10-15 minutes before your appointment start time to sign in, please communicate with your artist if you are running behind for any reason!
